Timing Chain Guide: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove engine front cover.
NOTE: The engine front cover contains the oil pump gears and water pump. If a new engine front cover is to be installed, remove the water pump
and oil pump gears from the old engine front cover.
2. Remove camshaft sprocket retainer bolt and washer from end of the camshaft.
3. Remove distributor drive gear.
4. Remove camshaft sprocket, crankshaft sprocket and timing chain/belt at the same time.
NOTE: If crankshaft sprocket is difficult to remove, loosen crankshaft sprocket by using a pair of large pry bars positioned on both sides of the
crankshaft sprocket.

5. Remove timing chain vibration damper (three bolts) from front of cylinder block. (This requires pulling back on ratcheting mechanism and then
installing pin through hole in bracket to relieve tension.)
