Mustang V8-4.6L DOHC (1996)
Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine dipstick.
2. Install suitable lifting eyes to engine, then install suitable engine lifting frame and raise engine to release pressure on motor mounts.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel assemblies.
4. Disconnect LH and RH tie rod ends and ball joints from hub and spindles.
5. Disconnect steering coupling at pinch bolt joint, then remove engine mount nuts.
6. Support sub frame with suitable adjustable jacks.
7. Remove front strut to spindle bolts, then separate strut and spindle.
8. Remove subframe to body bolts, then lower subframe sufficiently to allow oil pan removal.
9. Disconnect wiring connectors to oil pan sensors.
10. Remove bolts from oil pan, then remove oil pan and gasket, discard gasket.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Apply suitable silicone sealer to areas where block meets front and rear engine covers.

b. Tighten oil pan bolts to 15-22 ft lb in sequence.
