Air Filter Element: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION: Cleaning the air cleaner element is not recommended.

Visually inspect the air cleaner element for signs of dust or dirt leaking through holes in the filter media or past the sealing edges. Place a light on
the bottom (clean side) of the air cleaner element and look through the filter media at the light. Even the smallest hole is cause for replacement.

Also check the air cleaner element for deformed seals or for charred or brittle spots that could fail under engine operation and cause a hole.
Discoloration only is not a cause for replacement
