Seat Belt: Description and Operation
Convertible
Driver Side
The lap/shoulder safety belt has a dual retractor system.

The Lap/shoulder safety belt has a dual retractor system.

A shoulder belt retractor is attached to a bracket located in the quarter panel and a lap belt located at the base of quarter panel at rear of door
opening.

The safety belt webbing of the two retractors is joined to a common tongue.

The lap / shoulder safety belt retractor is designed to let the webbing move in or out freely except during vehicle hard braking, hard cornering or
impacts approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) or more. Then it is automatically locked by a mechanically-triggered inertia sensor.

The shoulder belt must always be in the belt holder on the seat back when the belt in use.

The lap belt webbing passes through a guide which is attached to the seat cushion. Be sure the webbing is routed through the guide.
Front Passenger Side
The lap/shoulder safety belt has a dual retractor system.

The shoulder belt retractor is attached to a bracket located in the quarter panel. The lap belt retractor is located at the base of quarter panel at the
rear of the door opening.

The convertible has a dual locking mode retractor on the lap belt part of the lap / shoulder belt on the front seat passenger side. The retractor
modes function as follows:

In the vehicle-sensitive (emergency) locking mode, the lap belt retractor will allow freedom of movement, locking tight only in hard braking and
hard cornering or impacts of approximately 8 km/h (5 mph) or more.

The lap belt retractor cannot be made to lock by pulling on the belt.

In the automatic locking mode, the lap belt retractor will remain locked and does not allow freedom of movement.

This mode provides tight lap belt on the hips and child seat or infant carrier installation.

This mode must be used when installing a child seat or infant carrier on the front passenger seat. To switch the retractor from the emergency
locking mode to the automatic locking mode, perform the following steps:
