Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove valve covers (6582).
2. Position piston (6108) of cylinder being serviced at the bottom of its stroke and camshaft lobe at base circle.

3. Install Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A under camshaft (6250) and on top of valve spring (6513).

4. Install Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A under intake camshaft and on top of primary intake valve spring retainer (6514).
5. Install Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A under intake camshaft and on top of secondary intake valve spring retainer.
6. Compress valve spring and remove rocker arm (6564).
7. Remove valve spring compressor and spacer.
8. If necessary, remove hydraulic valve tappet (6500).
9. Repeat Steps 2 through 8 until all necessary rocker arms are removed.

INSTALLATION

1. Position piston of cylinder being serviced at the bottom of its stroke and camshaft lobe at base circle.
2. Apply engine oil to valve stem and tip, rocker arm contact surfaces and valve tappet bore.

NOTE:  Valve tappet must have no more than 1.5 mm of plunger travel prior to installation.

3. If removed, install valve tappet.
4. Compress exhaust valve spring using Valve Spring Compressor T91P-6565-A and install rocker arm.
5. Compress primary intake valve springs using Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A and install rocker arm.
6. Compress secondary intake valve springs using Valve Spring Compressor T93P-6565-A and install rocker arm.
7. Remove valve spring compressor.
8. Repeat Steps 1 through 7 until all rocker arms are installed.
9. Install valve cover.

10. Start engine and check for leaks.
