Air Bag Sliding Contact: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Make sure front wheels are in the straight-ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at the 12 o'clock position.

2. Disconnect battery ground cable.

3. Remove steering wheel.

4. Remove instrument panel steering column cover, upper steering column shroud and lower steering column shroud.

5. Disconnect air bag sliding contact harness connector down column side.

6. While lifting off air bag sliding contact disengage three built-in clips on the backside of air bag sliding contact.

7. Remove air bag sliding contact retaining screws and air bag sliding contact.

INSTALLATION

1. Make sure front wheels are in the straight-ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at the 12 o'clock position.

2. Align air bag sliding contact to steering column intermediate shaft coupling and install by firmly pushing down to engine built-in clips.

3. Route air bag sliding contact wiring down column assembly and connect harness connector.

4. If installing a new air bag sliding contact, remove locking mechanism pull ring.

5. Install upper steering column shroud, lower steering column shroud and lower instrument panel steering column cover.

6. Install steering wheel.

7. Connect battery ground cable.
