Clutch Switch: Description and Operation
Vehicles equipped with a manual transmission are equipped with a clutch pedal position switch (CPP), located on the clutch pedal support bracket.
The clutch pedal position switch operates as follows:
^
In order for the engine starter motor to operate, the clutch pedal must be pressed all the way to the floor.
^
The switch plunger is contacted by the clutch pedal and extends as the clutch pedal is pressed.
^
The clutch pedal position switch is electrically connected in line with the ignition switch and starter motor relay coil.
^
The clutch pedal closes and completes the circuit to the starter motor relay.
^
Clutch pedal position switch maintains an open circuit when the clutch pedal is in the released (up) position.
^
The clutch pedal position switch also turns off the speed control when the clutch pedal is pressed.
