Mustang Cobra V8-281 4.6L DOHC VIN V MFI (1997)
REMOVAL
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Support the body at the rear body crossmember.
2. Remove the rear stabilizer bar. Lower the hoist until the rear shock absorbers are fully extended.
NOTE: The rear axle housing must be supported by the hoist, a transmission jack or jackstands.
3. Place a transmission jack under the rear suspension lower arm pivot bolt. Remove and discard the bolt and nut. Lower the transmission jack slowly
until the rear spring load is relieved.
4. Remove the rear spring and rear spring insulator from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Place the upper rear spring insulator on top of the rear spring. Tape in place if necessary.
2. Place the lower rear spring insulator on the rear suspension lower arm.
3. Position the rear spring on the rear suspension lower arm spring seat, so that the pigtail on the rear suspension lower arm is at the rear of the
vehicle and pointing toward the LH side of the vehicle. Slowly raise the transmission jack until the rear suspension lower arm is in position. Insert
a new rear pivot bolt and nut with the nut facing outward. Do not tighten at this time.
4. Lower the transmission jack. Raise the rear axle housing to curb height. Tighten the lower arm-to-axle pivot bolt to 98-132 Nm (73-97 ft. lbs.).
5. Install rear stabilizer bar.
6. Remove crossmember supports and lower vehicle.
