Pinion Gear: Adjustments
Pinion Location
DESCRIPTION
Two separate adjustments affect pinion and ring gear tooth contact: pinion location and backlash. Individual differences in matching the rear axle
housing and the differential pinion bearings require the use of shims to locate the pinion for correct contact with the ring gear.
PROCEDURE
1. See drive pinion (pinion gear) and adjust pinion gear location.
2. See differential case (differential carrier) and adjust backlash.
