Windshield Washer Pump: Service and Repair
Front Washer Pump and Seal Assembly
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect electrical connector and windshield washer hose from windshield washer reservoir. Remove windshield washer reservoir from vehicle.
2. Remove cover from windshield washer reservoir, flush reservoir and replace cover.
3. Using a small bladed screwdriver, pry out pump assembly retaining ring.
4. Using pliers to grip wall around electrical terminals, pull windshield washer pump from windshield washer reservoir.
INSTALLATION
1. Inspect windshield washer pump cavity in windshield washer reservoir and make sure that it is clean and free of foreign material.
2. Lubricate O.D. pump seal with a dry lubricant such as powdered graphite. This will prevent seal from sticking to wall of windshield washer
reservoir and make assembly easier.
3. Align small projection on pump with slot in windshield washer reservoir and assemble so that seal seats against bottom of reservoir pump cavity.
4. Using a 1 inch socket, preferably 12-point, hand press retaining ring securely against pump end plate.
5. Connect electrical connector and hose and install windshield washer reservoir in vehicle.
6. Fill windshield washer reservoir.
WARNING: WINDSHIELD WASHER SOLUTION CONTAINS METHANOL, WHICH IS POISONOUS. OBSERVE ALL
CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS INDICATED ON LABEL OF WASHER SOLUTION CONTAINER.
7. Check operation of windshield washer pump and check for leaks.
CAUTION: Do not operate windshield washer pump until fluid is added to windshield washer reservoir.
