This TSB article is being republished to add new service parts and expand the model year coverage to include 1991 units.

ISSUE:

A vibration felt in the steering wheel and in the floor or driver's seat or a boom/beat may occur when the engine is warm, at idle and with the
transaxle in gear. These conditions can also occur with the air conditioner and cooling fan engaged. They may be caused by stiff radiator and
engine mounts or by the position of the upper radiator hose clamp that contacts the under side of the hood and the exhaust insulators. Low
idle RPM will also contribute to this concern.

ACTION:

Install new lower radiator mounts and new number 1 & 2 engine mounts that are made from softer materials. Adjust idle and timing, inspect
A/C lines and remove the exhaust mounts. Refer to the following procedure for service details.

1.

Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.

2.

Check and adjust the ignition timing and idle RPM to the specifications as shown on the engine decal. Refer to the 1991 Probe Shop Manual,
Sections 03-07A and 03-07B, for timing and the 1991 Engine/Emissions Diagnosis Shop Manual, Volume H, Section 11-6, for idle speed
adjustments.

NOTE:

WITH THE STI TERMINAL GROUNDED, TURN THE IDLE AIR ADJUSTMENT SCREW COUNTER-CLOCKWISE TO INCREASE
RPM TO 1,000, THEN TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND DISCONNECT THE STI JUMPER WIRE.

Restart the engine and confirm that the By-pass Control Valve (ISC) is controlling the RPM to the upper limit of the specification.

Replace the lower radiator mounts. Refer to the Parts Block for correct parts usage. The new mounts are softer.

5.

After the new mounts are installed, confirm that the upper radiator location studs are centered in the upper radiator mounts, Figure 1.
