ISSUE:
A "check engine" light (MIL) that intermittently flashes "ON" and "OFF" may be caused by a false signal from the EGR valve position
sensor to the processor (ECA). The ECA interprets the signal as an EGR valve that is out of position. Service code "16" will be displayed
during EEC Self Test.
ACTION:
Install a new service wire harness with a resistor between the EGR valve position sensor and its connector. Refer to the following procedure
for service details.
FIGURE 1
1.
Fasten the new wire harness and resistor assembly to the pressure regulator control solenoid bracket, Figure 1.
2.
Disconnect the EGR valve position sensor wire harness connector (connector C140).
3.
Connect one end of the new service wire harness, (E92Z-12A690-A) to the EGR valve position sensor. Connect the other end of the new service
wire harness to the C140 connector.
4.
Secure the new service wire harness to the existing wire harness in the area with three (3) tie-straps.
