Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1. Discharge air conditioning system into a proper recovery system.
2. Disconnect high and low pressure lines from bulkhead, then vacuum line.
3. Remove instrument cluster.
4. Open glove compartment door, then push in on compartment sides to release stoppers.
5. Remove two glove compartment retaining screws, then glove compartment.
6. Remove lower hush panels from instrument panel.
7. Remove two armrest console retaining screws, then armrest console, if equipped.
8. On manual transaxle models, unscrew shifter knob.
9. On automatic transaxle models, remove emergency override key switch cover from top of floor console.

10. Engage parking brake, then gently pull up on upper half of floor console to separate it from lower half.
11. Disconnect cigar lighter and cigar lighter element electrical connectors.
12. Remove ashtray illumination bulb from upper half of console.
13. Remove two dash panel control console bezel screws, then bezel.
14. Remove climate control assembly.
15. Remove left and right instrument panel side covers, then four side instrument panel retaining bolts.
16. Remove upper instrument panel bolt.
17. Remove four instrument panel to floor console retaining bolts.
18. Remove left and right A-pillar trim.
19. Tip instrument panel forward, then disconnect necessary electrical connectors.
20. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
21. Disconnect blower motor electrical connector, then resistor electrical connector.
22. Remove evaporator/blower case brace retaining nuts and bolts, then brace.
23. Remove three nuts and one bolt retaining evaporator/blower case to bulkhead.
24. Remove evaporator/blower case from vehicle.
25. Remove five evaporator/blower case screws, then separate evaporator/blower case halves.
26. Remove evaporator core from case.
27. Reverse procedure to install.
