The Puma is fitted with inertia reel safety belts for the front and rear seats. The front seats are also fitted with pyrotechnic pretensioners.
Safety belts are life saving devices and therefore should be checked and tested with care at regulator intervals.
Safety belts that have been utilized in an accident should always be replaced irrespective of their visual appearance or apparent condition.
WARNING:Un-deployed pyrotechnic pretensioners represent a danger during disposal, therefore, all such pretensioners must be deployed in accordance with the relevant operation. Refer to the procedure in this section.
The pyrotechnic pretensioner is an integral part of the safety belt buckle. It is deployed by the air bag control module and, in the event of a frontal impact, which exceeds a predetermined limit, the charge is initiated which fires the pretensioner. The pretensioner draws in the buckle which reduces the free-play in the safety belt.
Use only Ford recommended upholstery cleaner to clean the safety belt webbing.
