Vehicles which exhibit loss of power or surge and are equipped with barometric pressure switches can be serviced by installing
a new barometric switch.
Barometric pressure switches built between May 5, 1984, and November 21, 1984, (Date Code number on part between 1254
and 3404) can malfunction and cause vehicle loss of power or surge. These conditions occur when the vehicle is driven in
elevations above 3,400 ft. and exposed to high temperature/humidity conditions. The high humidity/temperature conditions can
shift the calibration point in the barometric pressure switch assembly; when the vehicle is below 4,000 ft., a leaner air/fuel ratio
can exist, causing loss of power or surge.
Replace the barometric pressure switch with build date codes prior to 5/4/84 (1254) or after 11/21/84 (3404).
The date code numbers are ink-stamped on the switch assembly.
