LIGHT TRUCK:
1998 RANGER
ISSUE:
A "booming" noise may be heard in the cab while driving with engine at 2500-3000 rpms. This may be caused by an A/C hose going into resonance with
the engine vibration.
ACTION:
Install an A/C bracket to secure the A/C hose to the A/C compressor. Securing the hose should reduce the possibility of the hose going into resonance
with the engine vibration. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Using a utility knife, remove the insulation from the A/C manifold hose in an area approximately 51 mm (2") wide next to the upper front
compressor mounting bolt.
2.
Tape both ends of the cut insulation to keep it from peeling back.
3.
Remove the upper front A/C compressor mounting bolt.
4.
Obtain A/C Hose Bracket (F87Z-19812-DA).
5.
Place the A/C bracket around A/C manifold hose where insulation was just removed.
6.
Pinch the A/C bracket shut so that the opening holes on the bracket are now aligned. When applied correctly, bracket holes will lay flat against the
A/C compressor mounting hole.
7.
Insert the A/C compressor bolt through the bracket and back into its original position. Refer to the 1998 Ranger Workshop Manual, Section
412-03, for torque specifications.
