Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
1.
Remove transmission assembly, and on models equipped with manual transmission, the clutch pressure plate and disc.
2.
Remove flywheel, flywheel housing and rear plate.
3.
Punch two holes in seal on opposite sides of crankshaft directly above bearing cap to cylinder block split line. Insert a sheet metal screw into each
hole.
4.
Remove oil seal by prying against screws with two screwdrivers. Use care to avoid scratching the crankshaft oil seal surface.
5.
Clean oil seal groove in main bearing cap and cylinder block.
6.
Apply suitable lubricant to new seal and install using rear oil seal replacer tool No. T72C-6165-R or equivalent.
