This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include other transmissions in addition to the A4LD.
ISSUE:
The position of the shift lever, shown on the PRNDL, may not always show the proper gear in the transmission. This could be caused by the transmission
control cable assembly locking tab not being fully seated or secure in the cable body.
ACTION:
Inspect the position of the shift lever on the PRNDL. If it appears to be misadjusted, check the locking tab to be sure that it is fully seated in the cable
body, Figure 1. The locking tab is available as a service part. It is not necessary to replace the shift cable assembly. Refer to the following procedure for
service, details.
If the locking tab is not seated flush with the cable adjustor body, proceed as follows:

Remove the tab from the adjustor body with a pair of pliers.
