Camshaft: Description and Operation
The camshaft is installed in the cylinder block and is supported by four camshaft bearings. Thrust loads and end play are limited by a camshaft thrust
plate installed on the front of the cylinder block. The camshaft synchronizer drive gear, located at the rear of the camshaft, is part of the camshaft casting.
The camshaft synchronizer drives the oil pump through the on pump intermediate shaft. The camshaft position sensor (CMP sensor) is mounted on top
of the camshaft synchronizer.
