Thermostat: Service and Repair

REMOVAL 

1. Drain the cooling system.

2. Remove the upper radiator hose from the water outlet connection.

3. Remove the bolts and the water outlet connection and the water thermostat.
4. Discard the gasket and clean the sealing surfaces.

CAUTION:  Use care when scraping thermostat housing-to-gasket mating surfaces. Gouges in aluminum could from leak paths.

INSTALLATION 

1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

NOTE:  Make sure the sealing surfaces are totally free of gasket material.

2. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
3. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
