ISSUE:
On some vehicles, the Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS) and/or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester may not be able to read the signal from the
Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S). This may be caused by a calibration issue.
ACTION:
Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The revised calibration should enhance the ability to read the HO2S. Refer to the following Service
Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform normal diagnostics as outlined in the 1998 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) On-Board Diagnostics II (OBDII) Service
Manual. Service as required.
2.
If the concern still exists, reprogram the PCM.
3.
Refer to the following PCM Cross Reference Chant for correct calibration usage.

(PC/ED) SERVICE MANUAL FOR APPROPRIATE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES IF PCM HARDWARE CONCERNS EXIST.
