Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Front Output Shaft Oil Seal - Borg-Warner 1350 Electronic Shift
MANUAL SHIFT
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove front driveshaft from axle input yoke.
3.
Loosen clamp retaining front driveshaft boot to transfer case, then remove driveshaft and boot assembly from front output shaft.
4.
Drain fluid from transfer case, then remove oil seal using tool Nos. 1175-AC and T50T-100-A or equivalents.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. Note the following:
a.
Apply lubricant C1A-19590-B, or equivalent to oil seal and front output shaft female spline.
b.
Install oil seal using tool Nos. T83T-7065-B and T80T-4000-W, or equivalent.
ELECTRONIC SHIFT
1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove front driveshaft from axle input yoke. Pull driveshaft and boot assembly out of transfer case front output shaft. For GSB ``IRH'' option
vehicles, remove output shaft yoke by removing nut, steel washer and rubber seal.
3.
Place drain pan under transfer case, remove drain plug and drain fluid from transfer case.
4.
Remove oil seal from front output housing bore with seal removal tool No. 1175-AC and impact slide hammer tool No. T501-100-A or
equivalents.
5.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a.
Coat new oil seal and transfer case front output female spline with long life lubricant, C1AZ-19590-BA or equivalent.
b.
For GSB and IRH option vehicles, torque nut to 150-180 ft. lbs.
c.
Connect front driveshaft and torque bolts to 12-16 ft. lbs.
d.
Push driveshaft boot to engage external groove on transfer case front output shaft.
e.
Install drain plug and torque to 14-22 ft. lbs.
f.
Refill transfer case with Mercon multi-purpose automatic transmission fluid E4AZ-19582-B or equivalent, then torque fill plug to 14-22 ft.
