Vehicle Speed Sensor/Transducer - Cruise Control: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a small signal generator that is turned by a gear inside the transmission assembly.  In this way, the vehicle
speed sensor produces a signal that is proportional to vehicle road speed.

PURPOSE

The vehicle speed sensor supplies a signal to the components that require vehicle speed information: the speed control amplifier (on speed
control-equipped vehicles) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
