Wheel Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
4 Wheel Antilock Brake System
MAGNETIC INDUCTION
The ABS uses three sets of variable-reluctance sensors and toothed speed sensor rings to determine the rotational speed of each wheel. The sensors
operate on magnetic induction principle. As the teeth on the speed indicator ring rotate past the stationary sensor, a signal proportional to the speed
of the rotation is generated and sent to the ABS control module through a twisted-pair wire cable and wiring harness.
The Front Speed Sensors - are attached to the suspension knuckles, and the speed indicator rings are pressed onto the hub.
The Rear Sensor - is bolted to the rear axle housing. The rear speed indicator ring is mounted on the ring gear in the rear axle.
