ISSUE
A "hooting," "eeking" or "moaning" noise may be emitted from the clutch when shifting into gears while the engine is running on some vehicles. This
may be caused by the clutch pressure plate going into resonance when the clutch becomes 90% engaged. The clutch may be noisy but function and life
are not affected.
ACTION
Remove existing clutch and pressure plate assemblies and replace with revised clutch and pressure plate assemblies. The revised clutch and pressure
plate assemblies should reduce the possibility of noise. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify noise is coming from clutch assembly.
2.
Remove existing clutch assembly. Refer to the applicable Ranger Workshop Manual for removal and installation procedures.
3.
FOR 2.3L AND 2.5L MANUAL TRANSMISSION APPLICATIONS: Replace existing clutch with new service clutch assembly
2L5Z-7550-AARM and replace existing pressure plate with new service pressure plate 2L5Z-7563-AA.
OR
4.
FOR 3.0L MANUAL TRANSMISSION
APPLICATIONS: Replace existing clutch assembly with new service clutch assembly 2L5Z-7550-BARM and replace existing pressure plate with
new service pressure plate 2L5Z-7563-AA.
5.
Verify with road test (normal clutch/shifting operations).
