ISSUE
Some vehicles equipped with the 4.0L SOHC engine may exhibit a low engine RPM during initial cold start and/or loss of engine power upon clutch
disengagement or during deceleration. This may be caused by a loose PVC Closure Tube at the valve cover and/or the calibration of the Powertrain
Control Module (PCM).
ACTION
Reprogram the PCM and add a clamp to the PCV Closure Tube at the valve cover. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform normal diagnostics as outlined in the 2001 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Workshop Manual and service as required.
2.
If the condition is still present, install one hose clamp, part W527209-S301,to the PCV Closure Tube, where the elbow mates to the valve cover.
This closure tube goes from the clean air tube to valve cover.
3.
Reprogram the PCM using the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS), or New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. Refer to the following PCM
Calibration Information Chart.
