    • Quarter panel

Removal

  1. General notes
    • Necessary removal work: Rear door, weatherstrip, side window, rear seat, wheelhouse trim panel, rear lamp, rear bumper, quarter panel trim.
    • Reposition the carpeting and the wiring harness away from the working area.
    • Depending on the extent of the damage, the forced air extraction gusset should also be replaced.

  1. NOTE:
NOTE:If it is also necessary to install a new inner quarter panel with wheelhouse during the repairs, then the separating cuts need to be made as shown in the diagram (E79835).
Separating cuts on the quarter panel
    1. Upper C-pillar separating cut.
    1. Rear rocker panel separating cut.

  1. NOTE:
NOTE:The specified dimensions must be met when making the separating cuts.

    1. Heat the areas (approx. 170° C) and detach the NVH elements.
    1. Heat the bonded area at the edge of the wheel arch (approx. 170° C).

Installation

NOTE:
NOTE:Before resistance spot welding of body panels with a total panel thickness of 3 mm and greater, the welding equipment instructions contained in sub-section 501-25 must be followed.

  1. Quarter panel
    • Drill holes for puddle welding.

  1. Quarter panel (inside view)
    • Punch holes for puddle welding.

  1. NOTE:
NOTE:If the forced air extraction gusset is being replaced, it must be welded onto the quarter panel before installation of the quarter panel.

  1. Quarter panel
    1. Apply PU glass adhesive to the NVH element.
      NOTE:
      NOTE:
      • The PU glass adhesive on the edge of the wheel arch must not be applied as far as the cutting point on the rocker panel. A distance of around 20 mm should be maintained here. The continuous MIG welding at the cut on the rocker panel would burn the adhesive.
      • As there is no adhesive in this area, it needs to be thoroughly sealed afterwards.
    1. Apply PU glass adhesive to the edge of the wheel arch and to the C-pillar reinforcement.
    1. Continuous MIG weld seam.

  1. Quarter panel
    1. Resistance spot weld.
    1. Puddle weld.

  1. Quarter panel
    • Puddle weld.

  1. Quarter panel
    • Puddle weld.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:
    • The factory-installed MIG brazed joint must be replaced by MIG welds in a different position if a repair is performed.
    • These MIG welds must not be carried out on or in the immediate vicinity of an existing MIG brazed seam, as even the smallest amount of brazing solder can result in a reduction in the strength of the weld seam.
    Quarter panel
    • Intermittent MIG weld.
