Removal and Installation
Remove
1. Remove the front seat. (refer to Operation Number 40 100 0).

2. Detach the outer seat base cover.
1. Remove the three screw covers.
2. Remove the four retaining screws (three on manual backrest).

3. Remove the outer seat base cover.
• Disconnect the power seat multiplug.

CAUTION:

Note the routing of the air bag wiring harness, and power seat wiring harness (if equipped).

4. Remove the front seat backrest
• Remove the two Torx retaining screws each side.

5. Detach the lower edge of the seat backrest cover.
1. Lift each of the five retaining tangs.
2. Detach the back and front covers from the retaining strip.
3. Lift the centre part of the backrest cushion.

6. Detach the fabric flap on the base of the left and right ‐ hand side of the backrest cushion.

7. Cut the nine hog rings attaching the left ‐ hand side of the seat cover to the spring frame assembly.

8. Cut the nine hog rings attaching the right ‐ hand side of the seat cover to the spring frame assembly.

NOTE:

The heater mat on some later seats is attached to the seat cover by a stitched seam, and as such can only be replaced with a new seat cover.

9. Cut the three hog rings retaining the heater mat to the upper spring frame assembly.

10. Cut the five hog rings attaching the front of the seat cover to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.

11. Cut the three hog rings attaching the rear of the seat cover to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.
12. Roll the cover up the backrest frame to access the top of the spring frame assembly.

13. Remove the hog ring from the left and right ‐ hand side of the top edge of the spring frame assembly.

NOTE:

Rolling the cover off at this stage allows the cover to be inverted allowing unrestricted access to the top of the seat frame later.

14. Roll the seat cover up the backrest to access the upper edge of the seat frame.

15. Remove the five hog rings attaching the seat cover to the upper edge of the seat frame.

NOTE:

Rolling the seat cover off the top of the seat frame allows unrestricted access to the hog rings.

16. Remove the head restraint guides.
1. Use a screw driver to release the retainer.
2. Pull each tube from the seat backrest.
3. Roll the seat cover over the top of the seat frame.

17. Remove the four hog rings retaining the left ‐ hand edge of the seat cover to the seat frame.

18. Remove the four hog rings retaining the right ‐ hand edge of the seat cover to the seat frame.

19. Remove the five hog rings retaining the centre of the seat cover to the seat frame.
20. Remove the seat cover.

21. Remove the foam pad from the backrest frame.
Install

WARNING:

Make sure that NO discarded rivets or hog rings are caught inside or on the seat cover before assembly.

CAUTION:

DO NOT re ‐ use seat covers on service seats. Use a NEW seat cover.

CAUTION:

DO NOT re ‐ use hog rings or retaining rivets. Use only NEW manufacturers supplied components. Failure to follow recommended procedures may impair air bag deployment and may cause personal injury.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the seat cover and foam pad is fully in place on the backrest seat frame and correctly placed around the side air bag module. If a new foam pad is used the precut foam must be installed to accommodate the side air bag module. Failure to follow this warning will impair the side air bag operation and may cause personal injury.

NOTE:

PRODUCTION seats use 9 hog rings to secure the seat cover to the spring assembly. SERVICE seats (i.e. those that have been assembled after production) use 18 hog rings to secure the seat cover to each side of the spring frame assembly.

NOTE:

The side air bag modules are handed for left and right ‐ hand seats. The side air bag module multiplug must face the seat base when installed.

NOTE:

The heater mat on some later seats is attached to the seat cover by a stitched seam, and as such can only be replaced with a new seat cover.

CAUTION:

Make sure the opening for the side air bag is correctly fitted around the air bag module.

22. Install the foam pad onto the seat backrest frame.
   Place the foam pad over the seat frame.

CAUTION:

Make sure the inverted seat cover is correctly aligned with the top edge of the seat frame and the three centre hog rings are secured through the cut outs in the top of the seat frame.

23. Install the five hog rings retaining the centre of the seat cover to the seat frame.

24. Install the four hog rings retaining the left ‐ hand edge of the seat cover to the seat frame.

25. Install the four hog rings retaining the right ‐ hand edge of the seat cover to the seat frame.

NOTE:

Care exercised at this point will prevent straining the seat cover to fit later.

26. Position the seat cover onto the top of the seat frame.
1. Roll the seat cover onto the seat frame.
2. Make sure the edge of the seat cover aligns correctly with the top contour of the foam pad.

27. Install the head restraint guides.
• Push each tube into the backrest making sure it locks into position.

28. Install the five hog rings attaching the seat cover to the upper edge of the seat frame.
29. Roll the seat cover down the backrest to access the upper edge of the seat frame.

30. Install the hog rings on to the left and right ‐ hand side of the top edge of the spring frame assembly.

CAUTION:

Take care to fully position the seat cover as it is rolled into position on the seat frame.

31. Roll the seat cover down the backrest frame to the top of the spring frame assembly.

32. Install the three hog rings attaching the rear of the seat cover to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.

33. Install the five hog rings attaching the front of the seat cover to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.

NOTE:

The heater mat on some later seats is attached to the seat cover by a stitched seam, and as such can only be replaced with a new seat cover.

34. Install the three hog rings attaching the heater mat to the upper edge of the spring frame assembly.

CAUTION:

Carefully pull the cover into position over the cushion, making sure the cover seams align with the contour of the seat foam.

35. Attach the fabric flap to the tang on the base of the left and right ‐ hand side of the seat backrest frame.

CAUTION:

DO NOT reduce the number of hog rings if the seat is equipped with a lumbar mat, 18 hog rings must still be used.

36. Install the 18 hog rings attaching the left ‐ hand side of the seat cover to the spring frame assembly.
1. Pull the retaining strip into contact with the spring frame assembly.
2. Install the hog rings each side of the horizontal wires on the spring frame assembly.

CAUTION:

DO NOT reduce the number of hog rings if the seat is equipped with a lumbar mat, 18 hog rings must still be used.

37. Install the 18 hog rings attaching the right ‐ hand side of the seat cover to the spring frame assembly.
1. Pull the retaining strip into contact with the spring frame assembly.
2. Install the hog rings each side of the horizontal wires on the spring frame assembly.

38. Attach the lower edge of the seat backrest cover.
1. Close the backrest pad, attaching the lower edge to the retaining tangs.
2. Attach the back cover securing the retaining tangs.

39. Cable tie the air bag wiring harness to the seat frame.
• Attach the wiring harness to the outside edge of the seat frame at the white band on the harness insulation.

40. Install the front seat backrest onto the seat base.
• Install the two Torx retaining screws each side.

41. Install the outer seat base cover.
• Connect the power seat multiplug.

42. Attach the outer seat base cover.
1. Install the four retaining screws (three on manual seats).
2. Install the three screw covers.
43. Install the front seat. (refer to Operation Number 40 100 0).
