Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Stop the piston rod from turning using an Allen key.
    Undo the suspension strut top nut by five turns.
    1. Piston rod with Allen key
    1. Suspension strut nut

  1. Loosen the wheel nuts and the stub axle nut.
    1. Destake the axle driveshaft stub nut and undo it with a 32 mm socket wrench.
    1. Wheel nuts.
  1. Raise the vehicle.

  1. Detach the lower suspension arm and the front wheel.

  1. Remove the axle driveshaft stub nut and take off the washer.
  1. Press the axle driveshaft stub out of the wheel hub using a puller and tie it up.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Pull the front axle driveshaft out straight otherwise the oil seal will be destroyed.
    CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner joint must not be bent at more than 18 degrees, the outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Escaping oil. Close off the transmission with auxiliary plugs.
    Withdraw the left-hand front axle driveshaft from the transmission and remove it.

Installation

  1. General note.
    • Renew all snap rings and self-locking nuts.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The inner joint must not be bent at more than 18 degrees, the outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees.
    Install the left-hand front axle driveshaft into the transmission.
    • Insert the oil seal fitting sleeve (see next step).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:When inserting the axle driveshaft, use the fitting sleeve (supplied with every new oil seal) to protect the oil seal.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Make sure the snap ring clips firmly in place. Use a new snap ring.
    Axle driveshaft in installation position.
    • After installing the axle driveshaft, take out the oil seal fitting sleeve.

  1. Draw the axle driveshaft stub into the wheel hub.
    • Insert the washer and screw on the axle driveshaft stub nut.

  1. Install the lower suspension arm and the front wheel.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Top up to 5 - 10 mm below the lower edge of the level check bore. Ford Specification WSD-M2C200-C.
    Top up with transmission fluid.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Tighten the wheel nuts and the axle driveshaft stub nut.
    1. Tighten the axle driveshaft stub nut using a 32 mm socket wrench and stake it.
    1. Wheel nuts

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Stop the piston rod from turning using an Allen key.
    Tighten the suspension strut nut.
