Removal and Installation

Removal
  1. Remove the rear parcel shelf.

  1. Remove the tailgate trim plug.
    • Use a pad between the screwdriver and surround to prevent damage.

  1. Disconnect the washer pipe from the nozzle.

  1. Disconnect the washer pipe grommet from the tailgate.
    • Squeeze the grommet together at the finger pads to release.

  1. Using a suitable marker pen mark the position of the hinges.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Place protective material between the tailgate and roof to prevent damage to the paintwork.
    Loosen the four tailgate retaining bolts.

  1. WARNING:
    WARNING:The tailgate is of considerable weight and will have no resistance to fall once either of the support struts has been disconnected, it is therefore vital that the tailgate is securely supported in the fully open position before attempting to disconnect either of the support struts.
    Disconnect the tailgate support strut (both sides).
    • With the tailgate securely supported in the fully open position, ease out the retaining clip and pull the support strut from the mounting post.

  1. Remove the tailgate.
    • With the aid of another technician remove the four hinge to tailgate retaining bolts and lift off the tailgate.

Installation
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Ensure the tailgate hinges are aligned with the markings before fully tightening the four hinge to tailgate retaining bolts.
    Refit the components in reverse order.
