Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:To avoid accidental deployment, the air bag control module backup power supply must be depleted. Wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery ground cable(s) before commencing any repair or adjustment to the supplemental restraint system (SRS), or any component(s) adjacent to the SRS sensors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
WARNING:To minimize the possibility of premature deployment, do not use radio key code savers when working on the SRS. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
WARNING:
WARNING:Never probe the electrical connectors of air bag modules or any other SRS component. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
    For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

  1. Remove the door opening weatherstrip on both sides.
  1. Remove the front seats.
    For additional information, refer to: Front Seat (501-10 Seating, Removal and Installation).

  1. Remove the gearshift lever boot.
    1. Remove the gearshift lever knob.
    1. Detach the gearshift lever boot from the floor covering.

  1. Remove the parking brake control lever boot.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The bolt securing the safety belt lower anchor is held captive by a fibre washer. The bolt, spacer and fibre washer must remain on the safety belt lower anchor at all times when the safety belt is detached or removed.
    Remove the safety belt lower anchor on both sides.
    1. Remove the safety belt lower anchor retaining bolt.
    1. Detach the safety belt lower anchor from the floor pan.

  1. Detach the rear seat cushion from the floor pan.
    • Remove the rear seat cushion retaining screws.
  1. With the aid of another technician, remove the floor covering.

  1. Disconnect the air bag control module electrical connectors.

  1. Remove the air bag control module.

Installation

WARNING:
WARNING:Never probe the electrical connectors of air bag modules or any other SRS component. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:The air bag control module is grounded by the retaining bolts.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
