Head Restraint - Difficult To Position Up or Down

HEAD RESTRAINT - DIFFICULT TO POSITION UP OR DOWN

FORD 1986 TAURUS

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1986 SABLE

Head restraints that are difficult to move up or down can be corrected by lubricating the rods using the following procedure.

1.

Raise the head restraint to its maximum upright position.

2.

Unscrew the cap on the sleeve (as shown) and tape it on the rod to keep it out of your way.

Locate the four fingers on the sleeve (refer to Figure 1).

4.

While one technician is pushing down on the top of the front seat back (where the rod comes through the sleeve) as shown, another technician
should break off the inner-most finger as shown. Break at the lowest point possible on the sleeve.

NOTE:

Cover the top of the seat back with a clean cloth before pushing down on the cushion to prevent soiling of material.

5.

Apply Petroleum (ESB-M1C99-A) or equivalent (Vasoline Petroleum Jelly) to the rod with a Q-Tip or equivalent, at the point the finger was
broken off.

NOTE:

Make sure Petroleum or equivalent does not touch the material.

6.

Move the head restraint up and down to work the Petroleum into the sleeve.

7.

Secure the cap back onto the sleeve.

8.

Follow the same procedure for the other rod.

9.

Check head restraint for easy movement.
