ISSUE:
Engine stall condition (below 10 MPH) when braking to a stop, only after the torque converter clutch has been engaged, may be due to a broken spring
in the Modulated Converter Clutch Control Solenoid (MCCC) that prohibits release of the torque converter clutch.

ACTION:
Perform a self test of the EEC IV system and service any fault codes. If no fault codes are displayed and the vehicle stalls when stopped, only after the
torque clutch has been engaged, perform the following service procedure to diagnose the cause of the concern.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Install the Rotunda Transmission Tester 007-0085A.

2.

Drive the vehicle at 35 MPH.

3.

Push and then release the MCCC/CCC button on the tester. This will operate the MCCC solenoid to engage and disengage the torque convertor
clutch.

NOTE:
IF THE MCCC SOLENOID HAS A BROKEN SPRING IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE CONVERTOR CLUTCH TO DISENGAGE.

4.

Bring the vehicle to a stop. If the engine stalls when the vehicle stops, replace the MCCC solenoid in the transaxle.

5.

If the engine does not stall while using the transmission tester to operate the torque converter clutch, the stall condition may be caused by the EEC
IV processor or vehicle harness. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for service details.
