Crankshaft Main Bearing: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
NOTE: The crankshaft main bearings are precision selective fit. Check the bearing clearances and/or select-fit a new crankshaft main bearing.
REMOVAL
1. Remove oil pan.
2. Remove oil pump.
3. Remove spark plugs to allow easy crankshaft rotation. Refer to Powertrain Management.
NOTE: Replace one crankshaft main bearing at a time, leaving the other crankshaft main bearings securely fastened.
4. Remove crankshaft main bearing cap to which new crankshaft main bearings are to be installed.
NOTE: Rotate remover tool against end of crankshaft main bearing OPPOSITE locating tang.
