Taurus V6-182 3.0L VIN 1 FI Flex Fuel (1997)
Voltage Regulator: Description and Operation
^
The voltage regulator controls the generator field current to maintain proper generator output.
^
The set voltage will vary with temperature and is typically higher in the winter than summer, allowing for better battery charging.
Once the Generator (GEN) begins generating current, a voltage signal is taken from the generator stator and coil and fed back to the voltage regulator S
circuit, turning off the charge indicator lamp.
The charge warning indicator comes on when a concern is detected in the:

The charge warning indicator is controlled by the voltage regulator. The charge warning indicator will be turned ON for any of these conditions:
^
Ignition switch in the RUN position with the engine OFF. This is the lamp prove-out (normal operation)
^
Open in Circuit 35 (O/LB) (A circuit)
^
Open in Circuit 36 (Y/W) (B+ circuit)
^
No generator output
