Torque Converter: Flow of Diagnosis
DESCRIPTION
Prior to torque converter replacement all diagnostic procedures must be followed. This is to prevent the unnecessary replacement of good torque
converters. Only after a complete diagnostic evaluation can the decision be made to replace the torque converter.
PROCEDURE
Begin with the normal diagnostic procedures as follows:
1. Preliminary inspection. See: Transmission Control Systems/Testing and Inspection
2. Know and Understand the Customer's Concern.
3. Verify the Concern. Perform the Torque Converter Clutch Operation Test. See: Torque Converter Clutch/Testing and Inspection
4. Perform Diagnostic Procedures
a. Run On-Board Diagnostics. See: Transmission Control Systems/Testing and InspectionService all Non-Transaxle related DTCs first.
Service all DTCs. Rerun On-Board Diagnostic to verify service.
b. Perform Line Pressure Test.
c. Perform Stall Speed Test. See: Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics/AX4S/Special Testing Procedures/Stall

d. Diagnosis by Symptom Routines. See: Testing and Inspection/Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures/AX4N
