This article is being republished in its entirety to inform dealers of the correct service labor time standards for 1984 vehicles.

ISSUE:

The 1984-86 Car Shop Manuals outline the procedure to remove the engine assembly from the vehicle when servicing the oil pump, front oil
seal, crankshaft sprocket or the timing belt.

ACTION:

Special time studies indicate that engine removal from the vehicle is not required when servicing these components by using the following
procedure.

1.

Connect the engine support tool D79P-6000-B or equivalent to the engine.

2.

With the engine supported using the tool, remove the right hand side engine mount and insulator assembly.

3.

Remove the accessory drive belts.

4.

Lower the engine until the crankshaft pulley clears the right side frame rail.

5.

Remove the six (6) crankshaft pulley attaching bolts.

6.

Proceed to service components as necessary by referring to the procedures outlined in the 1986 Car Shop Manual, Volume E, Section 22-06.

Service Labor Time Standards were recently revised to be in accordance with the above procedure.

For the correct 1984 allowances, refer to the 1985 Service Labor Time Standards Manual.

1984 allowances are no longer applicable.
