During cold, wet weather driving, erratic operation of the glow plugs and/or the tachometer may be caused by moisture entering and corroding the 14290
to 14289 wiring connectors. This causes the "after glow" indicator lamp not to go out during engine idle, although the thermo-switch is working properly
and the coolant temperature is above 86~F. The tachometer may also vary from zero to 2000 RPM due to the corrosion.
To correct this, the wiring harness connectors should be separated and the corroded wires butt-spliced together using the "duraseal" butt-splice
connectors (E6FZ-14488-A), as outlined below.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
