Harsh shifts or shift sags may occur if the TV linkage is improperly adjusted. Correct TV adjustment cannot be made unless engine idle RPM is at
recommended curb idle setting.
The TV control linkage must be adjusted at the TV control rod assembly sliding trunnion block using the following procedures:
1.
If the vehicle has greater than 150 miles on the odometer, check Curb Idle RPM in "Drive" and reset Curb Idle "hard stop" to 550 RPM, if
required, using the following procedure.
a.
Connect STAR tester and tachometer, start and operate engine to normal operating temperature (upper radiator hose hot and pressurized).
b.
With engine "off," latch the STAR tester and run the key on/engine off (KOEO) self-test.
c.
During the KOEO test, the ISC motor should retract. When the ISC motor is fully retracted, disconnect the motor from the vehicle harness.

Start engine and set parking brake, place transmission "Drive". Curb Idle must be 550 RPM. If Curb Idle speed must be adjusted, remove
throttle body, welsh plug. (See Figure 28).
e.
Install throttle body and adjust throttle stop screw to achieve 550 RPM in "Drive". Install new welsh plug.
2.
Loosen the bolt on the sliding trunnion block, on the TV control rod assembly, one turn minimum.
3.
Remove any corrosion from the control rod and free-up the trunnion block so that it slides freely on the control rod.
