Tempo FWD L4-140 2.3L HSC (1987)
-
With trunnion block loosened, rotate the trans-axle control lever up using one finger and a light force, 4.5N (approximately 1 pound), to
ensure that the TV control lever is against its internal idle stop. Without relaxing the force on the TV control lever, tighten the bolt on the
trunnion block to 9-14 N-m. (7-11 lb.ft.) as shown below.
^
Turn the throttle stop adjusting screw for hardstop adjustment.
^
Turn the engine "OFF".
^
Reconnect the ISC connector.
^
Reconnect the air induction tube (flex tube) completely.
3.
Perform the EEC-IV Controlled Idle Learning Procedure
^
Turn the engine "ON".
^
Turn all accessodes "OFF." [With the engine at normal operating temperatures and the transmission in Neutral (MTX) or Ddve (ATX), idle the
engine for 2-3 minutes.]
^
Turn the Air Conditioning "ON" (if applicable) and idle the engine for 2-3 minutes.
^
The controlled idle RPM should be within specifications with air conditioning "OFF" (see chart Exhibit 3, Page 2 of 6).
^
Place a small quantity of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) compound in the idle screw adjusting hole of the throttle body. This space was
previously covered by the tamper resistant cap.
NOTE:
Idle speeds are controlled by EEC-IV processor and idle speed control motor. If the ISC motor system is operating properly, these speeds are
fixed and can not be changed by traditional adjustment techniques.

Refer to the Modification Procedure Summary (Attachment I, Page 1).
