ISSUE:

Some late 1988 and all 1989 design passive restraint shoulder strap track assemblies must be modified in the "A" and "B" pillar areas in order
to be used as service assemblies on units built before 5/03/88. This is necessary because of late 1988 model year production tooling changes
to the "A" and "B" pillar limit switch mounting brackets on the track assemblies.

ACTION:

Use the following procedure to service the passive restraint shoulder strap assemblies. Refer to the Master Car Parts Catalog to obtain the
appropriate service replacement front seat shoulder strap track assembly part number.

SHOULDER STRAP TRACK REMOVAL

1.

Remove the rear seat cushion and seat back assemblies. Refer to the 1988 Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual, Section 41-14 for service details.

2.

Remove the front scuff plate, quarter trim panel and "A" pillar interior garnish moulding. Refer to the 1988 Tempo/Topaz Shop Manual, Sections
45-26, 45-03, and 45-16 respectively for service details.

3.

Run the front seat shoulder strap full forward, Figure 1.
