Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation

1.

Remove oil pan as described under OIL PAN procedure.

2.

Remove oil inlet pickup tube and screen assembly.

3.

Remove oil pump attaching bolts, then the oil pump and intermediate drive shaft.

4.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Prime oil pump with engine oil before installing.
b. Position intermediate drive shaft into distributor sprocket. With intermediate drive shaft firmly seated, the stop on the shaft should contact

crankcase surface.

c. Remove shaft and adjust as necessary. Position pump with intermediate drive shaft insert to cylinder block, then install and tighten attaching

bolts to specification.

d. Do not force oil pump into position on cylinder block. If pump drive shaft is misaligned with distributor shaft, rotate drive shaft to a

new position.
