Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Clamping Tool, Boot Retaining Clamp

Removal

CAUTION:
CAUTION:Make sure, that the ABS sensor ring gets not damaged.
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The outer CV joint is a press fit. Do not disassemble. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the outer CV joint.
    Remove the inner CV joint boot.
    For additional information, refer to: Inner Constant Velocity (CV) Joint Boot (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Use vise jaw protectors.
    Secure the halfshaft in a vise and remove the outer CV joint boot.
    • Discard the CV joint boot and retaining clamps.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:The total amount of grease in the CV joint must not exceed 165 grams for 85 PS vehicles and 250 grams for 110/130 PS vehicles.
    For additional information, refer to: Specifications (205-04 Front Drive Halfshafts, Specifications).
    Install a new outer CV joint boot.
    • Slide the outer CV joint boot along the shaft, but do not fit into place.
    • Apply grease to the CV joint.
    • Fully install the new CV outer joint boot into place. Ensure that the inner end of the boot is seated in the sealing groove in the shaft
    • Use a suitable screwdriver under the boot to allow air to escape.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new CV joint boot inner retaining clamp.
    Using the special tool, install the CV joint boot inner retaining clamp.
    • With the CV joint inner clamp installed, measure the distance from the inner end of the CV joint boot to the outer end. This distance needs to be 102 mm for 85 PS vehicles and 118 mm for 110/130 PS vehicles.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new CV joint boot outer retaining clamp.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not move the CV joint housing. Make sure that the CV joint boot is installed at the measured position.
    Using the special tool, install the CV joint boot outer retaining clamp.
  1. Install the inner CV joint boot.
