Removal and Installation

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet pipe from the air cleaner.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the inside of the pipe ends are clean and free of oil residue.
    Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure that the inside of the pipe ends are clean and free of oil residue.
    Disconnect the charge air cooler intake pipe from the turbocharger.

  1. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the turbocharger compressor pipe.

  1. Remove the oil level indicator and tube.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

  1. Disconnect the oil return tube from the turbocharger.
    • Discard the gasket.

  1. Remove the oil return tube.
    1. Remove the oil return tube retaining bolt.
    1. Remove the oil return tube retaining bracket.
    1. Remove the oil return tube.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.
  1. Lower the vehicle.
Vehicles with variable vane turbocharger
  1. Disconnect the vacuum line from the vacuum diaphragm in-line connector.
All vehicles
  1. Disconnect the oil supply tube from the turbocharger.

  1. Remove the turbocharger compressor pipe from the turbocharger.
    • Discard the O-ring seal.

  1. Disconnect the exhaust front pipe from the exhaust manifold and secure it to one side.
    • Discard the gasket.
Vehicles with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
  1. Disconnect the EGR cooler from the exhaust manifold.
All vehicles
  1. Remove and discard the turbocharger oil supply tube and sealing washers.

  1. Remove the turbocharger and exhaust manifold assembly.
    • Discard the gasket, the bolts and the nuts.

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold studs.
    • Discard the studs.
Vehicles with EGR

All vehicles
  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure a new turbocharger oil supply tube and washers are installed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in premature failure of the turbocharger.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:A new oil supply tube is supplied with integral sealing washers.
    Install the turbocharger oil supply tube to the engine.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Make sure the oil level indicator tube is installed to the correct side of the turbocharger variable vain actuator rod. Failure to follow this instruction may cause the turbocharger to function incorrectly.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install a new O-ring seal to the oil level indicator tube.
    Install the oil level indicator and tube.
