Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures). | | -
CAUTION:Do not loosen the ball joint flange bolts. NOTE:Shift the transmission into third gear. Remove the gearshift lever extension. - Remove the gearshift lever extension.

Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation). | | -
Remove the driveshaft front center bearing retaining bolts. | | -
NOTE:Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the transmission output shaft flange. Detach the driveshaft from the transmission output shaft flange and position it to one side. | | -
Disconnect the steering column flexible coupling from the steering gear pinion. - Remove the nut.
- Remove the lower pinch bolt.
- Detach the steering column shaft and position it to one side.

Detach the power steering lines from the front axle crossmember. | | -
CAUTION:Cap the clutch slave cylinder supply line to prevent fluid loss or dirt ingress. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder supply line. | | -
Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector. | | -
Disconnect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector. | | -
Remove the transmission support insulator to front axle crossmember bolts. | | -
- Support the engine under the oil pan with a wooden block.

Lower the front axle crossmember (left-hand side shown). - Remove the nuts and bolts.
| | -
Install the special tool. | | -
Remove the gearshift assembly. - Push the rubber insulator upwards.

Detach the heat shield and disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. | | -
Loosen the starter motor to transmission bolts by three turns. | | -
Remove one transmission retaining bolt from the right-hand side and one from the left-hand side. | | -
Remove the transmission right-hand side inner retaining bolts. | | -
Remove the transmission right-hand side retaining bolts. | | -
Remove the transmission left-hand side retaining bolts. | | -
Remove the transmission right-hand side retaining bolt. | | -
CAUTION:Do not tilt the transmission during removal. This may cause damage to the pilot bearing. With the aid of another technician remove the transmission. | | -
Remove the insulator pad. | | |
