Backing Plate: Service and Repair
Brake Backing Plate
Removal and Installation
1. Remove the brake shoes. For additional information, refer to Brake Shoes See: Brake Shoe/Service and Repair.
2. Remove the wheel cylinder. For additional information, refer to Wheel Cylinder See: Wheel Cylinder/Service and Repair.
3. Remove the spindle. For additional information, refer to Rear Suspension.
4. Compress the parking brake cable conduit locking tabs and pull the parking brake cable assembly through the backing plate.
5. If equipped, drill out the 2 rivets and remove the backing plate.

It is not necessary to install new rivets.
6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
