Parking Brake Cable: Adjustments
NOTE: Vehicles equipped with rear drum brakes, the parking brake is self-adjusting and when correctly installed, will maintain correct adjustment.
To adjust the parking brake on vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, use the following procedure:
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. At the inboard side of the rear wheel disc brake adapter, remove the rubber plug from the parking brake adjuster access hole.
3. Insert a suitable tool into the adjuster access hole and expand the parking brake adjuster while turning the tire and wheel assembly.
4. Expand the parking brake shoe and lining until resistance is felt while turning the tire and wheel assembly.
5. Back off the parking brake adjuster one turn.
6. Repeat steps two through five for the other rear wheel.
7. Lower the vehicle and test the parking brake.
8. Pull up on the parking brake control and listen to the clicks from the pawl in the parking brake control. Resistance should be felt after five clicks
from the pawl.
