Radiator Cooling Fan Control Module: Description and Operation
OPERATION
The fan control system consists of two 2-speed cooling fans. The fans are controlled by the constant control relay module (CCRM) and powertrain
control module (PCM), which energize the fans under the following conditions:
1. Engine cooling fans are turned on if the following conditions occur:
a. Engine temperatures are higher than normal. Fans start running at 215° F and stop running at 210° F.
b. A/C is on and vehicle speed does not provide enough airflow. Fans start running at speeds at or below 43 mph and stop running at 48 mph.
c. A/C compressor clutch is engaged.
2. Cooling fans will run at high speed if engine temperature is higher than desirable and cooling fans have been operating at low speed. Fans start
running at high speed at 230° F and stop running at 224° F.
