Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
EXCEPT 16 VALVE ENGINE
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove air cleaner assembly.
3.
Disconnect vacuum lines.
4.
Disconnect throttle valve cable.
5.
Disconnect accelerator cable.
6.
Disconnect electrical connector from carburetor.
7.
Disconnect fuel line from fuel pump.
8.
Disconnect all necessary vacuum lines and remove carburetor assembly.
9.
Remove early fuel evaporation (EFE) gasket.
10.
Disconnect vacuum line, then remove dashpot bracket.
11.
Remove heat shield.
12.
Raise and support vehicle.
13.
Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
14.
Remove exhaust bracket from engine.
15.
Disconnect air hose from converter pipe.
16.
Lower vehicle.
17.
Disconnect brake vacuum hose.
18.
Remove accelerator and throttle cable bracket.
19.
Remove intake and exhaust manifolds and gaskets.
20.
Reverse procedure to install.
16 VALVE ENGINE
Intake Manifold
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Drain cooling system.
3.
Remove air cleaner assembly.
4.
On GSI models, remove upper radiator hose.
5.
On all models, disconnect throttle and accelerator cables.
6.
Mark then remove all necessary vacuum hoses.
7.
On except GSI models, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect throttle position, cold start, air control valve and vacuum sensors and injector electrical connectors.
b. Remove cold start injector pipe.
c. Remove water hose from air valve.
8.
On GSI models, proceed as follows:
a. Remove fuel delivery pipe and injectors then the temperature sensor connector.
b. Remove water outlet bypass pipe.
9.
On all models, raise and support vehicle.
10.
Remove intake manifold bracket.
11.
Lower vehicle.
12.
Remove intake manifold attaching bolts.
13.
Remove intake manifold.
14.
Reverse procedure to install.
Exhaust Manifold
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove exhaust manifold heat shield or insulator.
3.
Raise and support vehicle.
4.
Disconnect front exhaust pipe.
5.
On except GSI models, remove exhaust manifold support bracket.
6.
On all models, lower vehicle.
7.
On except GSI models, disconnect oxygen sensor.
8.
On all models, remove exhaust manifold attaching bolts then exhaust manifold.
9.
Reverse procedure to install.
