Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation
REMOVAL

1.
Raise and support vehicle.
2.
Remove wheel and rear hub nuts. Mark relationship between drum and axle for assembly reference.
3.
Remove parking lever cover, loosen but do not remove brake cable locking nut.
4.
To increase brake shoe to drum clearance, pull shoe hold-down pin about 5 mm.
5.
Remove drum by using sliding hammer tool No. J37781 or equivalent.
6.
Remove brake shoes as follows:
a.
Remove shoe hold-down springs.
b.
Disconnect parking brake cable from shoe lever.
c.
Remove brake shoes, Fig. 5.
d.
Remove parking shoe lever from shoe rim.
